Our next monthly meeting will take place at its usual time and place: Wednesday, June 11th at Matrix office (you can find directions on our web site: http://www.iasahome.org/web/atlanta). The meeting will start at 6:30 and pizza will be provided to those who RSVP to Burk Hufnagel (BurkHufnagel@gmail.com) as I will be out that night. The guest speakers this time will be Doug Mulkey, Strategic Architect, and Dave Hocker, Sr. Technical Mentor, from Sage Software. They will present their work inspired by Steve McConnell’s book on Software Estimation which I also love and recommend: Demystifying Software Estimation Description: Software developers are often asked to estimate projects that inherently have a lot of uncertainty and complexity. For that reason in many organizations, the goal of improving estimates is not to move from +/- 10% accuracy to +/-5% accuracy. Rather, it is to move from more like +100%/-50% accuracy to +/-20% accuracy. Reaching this goal does not require rocket science. It does require diligent use of useful estimation techniques. This presentation draws from the work of Steve McConnell as published in his book: Software Estimation – Demystifying the Black Art. The presenters will discuss: - The need for estimate accuracy
- The sources of estimate inaccuracy
- The attributes of a good estimate
- Useful estimation techniques
Also, I would like to announce that we are planning a panel for July on Design Patterns. If you have any questions about design patterns that you would like to be discussed, please, send them to me (maxim@mindspring.com) . Also, we still have one or two seats open on the panel. If you would like to be one of the panelists, please, send me an email with your CV. Best regards, Max Poliashenko IASA Atlanta chapter, President
