2003 - A small group of architects decide to form the Austin Software Architecture Users Group (ASAUG) to bring local architects together to discuss various industry related issues.
- A basic website was created and the first meeting was held in September with an overwhelming response.
- Through word of mouth, five more city software architecture users groups were created throughout the United States.
2004 - With the addition of the Toronto and Adelaide chapters, the decision was made to turn ASAUG into a full fledged business association. ASAUG became the International Association of Software Architects (IASA); a global non-profit association for the advancement of the IT architect profession.
- 15 more additional city chapters were created around the world along with 1500 registered members.
2005 - IASA unveils the new website complete with individual chapter pages to accommodate every local community.
- IASA steadily grows by adding ten more chapters.
- Membership doubles to 3,000 registered members.
- IASA Working Group program is launched with the Foundations and Taxonomy Reference Model.
- IASA begins to publish its quarterly journal titled Perspectives of the IASA.
2006 - Membership reaches 5,000 registered members.
- IASA expands to almost 50 chapters around the world.
- IASA launches Knowledge Communities; pools of knowledge on a particular IT architecture topic.
- The Foundations and Taxonomy Reference Model becomes the first architecture standard to undergo a review process by a large pool of practicing architects.
- IASA launches the continuing education program by unveiling online training courses
2007 - IASA begins charging membership dues
- IASA develops and delivers the industry's first Skills Library which documents the skills neccessary to become an IT Architect. The Skills Library includes over 600 pages of material written by experienced architects from around the world. The library is open to the public and can be accessed here.
- IASA will host a series of regional architecture events titled IT Architect Regional Conference 2007 in Fall of 2007.
